The Bachmann Prairie 2-6-2 Steam Locomotive with Tender is decorated for the Southern Railway and reproduces the classic 2-6-2 "Prairie" wheel arrangement in HO Scale (1:87). Developed in the early 1900s for service on the American Midwest prairies, Prairie-type locomotives became known for their relatively light weight, ability to operate effectively in reverse, and versatile speed range, allowing many to remain in branchline service long after newer locomotives entered operation. This model features an operating puffing smoke unit, operating headlight, precision motor, die-cast chassis, metal siderods, see-through spoked drivers, separately applied handrails, RP25 blackened metal wheels, and E-Z Mate® Mark II magnetic couplers. The electrically isolated motor also allows hardwiring of a DCC decoder. It performs best on 18-inch radius curves or greater.
